My 96 Probe SE over heating problems.?

My probe is haveing problems. I can start the car an let it idle all day an it will be fine but when i put it in drive an go it slowly starts to over heat less then half a mile but if i put it in neutral it slowly goes down again.it will go from 1/2 way up to 3/4 then to hot. I filled the radiator with coolant before winter an the car has been started every 3 days an the coolant is gone already. I also changed the thermostat as well an it had done nothing. Please reply if you have any form of help. Thank you for any replies.
