PS2 Slim not reading discs... again..?

Has anyone experienced and know whats the deal with the PS2 slim somehow out of the blue stopped reading discs.. This will sound strange but exactly one year ago.. to the date... It stopped reading discs.. I stopped playing it until this christmas season. I plugged it in... wooo hoo it worked.. But as my memory card shows the dates last played, it is to the date... it stopped again. Any help out there?
