What info is needed when buying a house in a different country, like Scotland or Brit. V.I.? (legal issues)?

Am looking into buying some property in another country. The few countries that I would like to buy in is: Western Europe, or the British Virgin Islands. With this great goal in hand, am unsure of how to go about doing this in the legal manner. Please advise, thanks.
